John Romano "Princess Di" Painting
I painted the above picture the night Princess Di was killed in Paris. My roommate at the time worked for the French consulate in New York and was having a dinner party at our flat in Brooklyn.
I had two large blank canvases (48" x 60") in my room waiting for me to attack them. I snuck out of the party and painted them both in about an hour. The above "Princess Di" and its companion piece "Dog Owner".
The naked figure represents the press and the Picasso-Guernica (in my mind anyway) style "ghosts" represent celebrities being haunted. All the work for fame, but being followed by cameras 24/7 has to be soul drenching. Princess Di paid the ultimate price.
The sun in the upper corner is a mistake. I still wish it weren't there.
The painting is for sale for $5,500 and is also the cover art for my first CD "Delicious".
